Connected Cycling : Sena Brings Advanced Communication to Fahrrad Essen

Bike & Outdoors April 15, 2026 Team Sena

Sena was proud to take part in Fahrrad Essen, one of the region’s key gatherings for cycling enthusiasts and industry professionals. Held at Messe Essen, the event provided a great platform to connect with riders, partners, and innovators shaping the future of cycling.

As part of the program, we were invited to deliver a presentation on the stage, focusing on “Communication for Cyclists.”

The session introduced attendees to helmet intercom solutions, highlighting how Sena’s communication systems can be seamlessly integrated into virtually any helmet, offering license-free, easy-to-use connectivity for riders of all levels.

Sena takes the stage in Essen

The presentation took place together with Naviso, and most attendees were recreational riders who cycle in pairs or groups, which is exactly the kind of riders who benefit most from simple and reliable communication. The session focused on how cyclists can stay connected while riding, with a spotlight on the Sena BiKom 20 as a purpose-built cycling solution.

Our team presented the real benefits riders care about: the open-ear design that keeps you aware of your surroundings, real-time group communication, and how Sena’s Mesh technology makes everything work effortlessly. A big highlight is that there’s no manual pairing process involved, so riders can just press one button before starting the ride and begin talking.

Seamless communication for everyone

At the core of Sena’s innovation is its Mesh Intercom™ technology, designed to redefine how cyclists communicate on the road. Unlike traditional Bluetooth connections, Mesh Intercom creates a dynamic network that allows riders to join and leave groups effortlessly without disrupting the connection.

This means more reliable communication over longer distances, even in challenging environments. For cyclists riding in groups, Mesh enables seamless, hands-free conversation that keeps everyone connected and focused on the ride ahead.

Most of the curiosity of the audience in Essen centered around how Mesh communication actually works and how it differs from traditional communication methods used by cyclists in the past. In particular, the connection established by Mesh Intercom does not rely on mobile phone coverage, which can become a big deal in places where the signal can be patchy once you leave the city.

Bringing communication to the cycling community

Participating in local events like Fahrrad Essen reflects Sena Technologies’s growing commitment to the cycling sector. By stepping beyond traditional motorcycle-focused audiences and engaging directly with cycling communities, Sena is expanding its reach and building stronger connections with everyday riders.

These regional exhibitions provide valuable opportunities to demonstrate real-world use cases, gather feedback, and showcase how communication technology can enhance group rides, safety, and overall riding experience.
