Hotel Cardkey Lock System
Target Customer: KDE (Knowledge Digital E-solution) KDE is providing the cardkey controller modules to one of the key-lock system leaders in Norway. KDE is a Korean company that provides such products as card reader, payment system and e-money solution.
Target Device : Access Control System
The system is key-lock operated in each room of hotels and resorts, controlling access to the room based on the cardkey.

Cardkey Lock System
Motive
The current cardkey lock system is composed of a door access controller and an access management server computer, and both parties are connected through RS485. However, there is limited flexibility in the RS485-based system, since re-building cable lines is required when adding additional controllers or when moving exiting ones. Therefore, they decided to connect the access controller to the Ethernet network, which was already built in the buildings. By embedding the HelloDevice into the controller, it can communicate with the access management server through TCP/IP network.

Benefits
In the old system, reconstructing whole RS485 lines was required to move or add units, since RS485 is based on an one-to-one communication system between each unit. It was also inefficient, since an additional RS485 layer other than the Ethernet was involved in building the whole system, making it difficult to connect to the existing Ethernet-based business system. In the new system, the communication layer is integrated into the TCP/IP and Ethernet between the card key lock and the authentication system, making the whole system simpler, more homogeneous and more efficient. As a result, it enables the system integrators to build the system with minimum cost by using the existing Ethernet network in the hotel, and making the whole system manageable, more efficient, and more flexible by connecting them to the Database-based business system.
