One of the typical industrial applications of Bluetooth products is to retrieve machine production data. This article explains how to use SENA’s Blueooth access point and Bluetooth-serial adapters to use with Omron PLCs for the purpose. The acquired production data is used to calculate the machines’ MTTR (Mean-Time-To-Repair) and MTBF (Mean-Time-Before-Failure).
Connect Sena Parani-SD100 Bluetooth-Serial Adapter to Omron CQM1H PLC’s peripheral port.

Using Omron CX-Programmer Software, configure the PLC’s Peripheral Port to:
. Baud: 9600 bps
. Format: 8 Data Bits, None Parity, 1 Stop Bit
. Mode: Host Link
. Unit Number: 00-13 (Remarks: Make sure the PLC’s Unit Number does not duplicate)
Connect Sena Parani-MSP1000 Bluetooth Access Point to network for configuration.
Log in to Parani-MSP1000 web management system for configuration.
In Serial Port Profile -> Pairing mode configuration menu, set pairing mode to ‘Custom’. Only predefined Bluetooth device can connect to Parani-MSP1000.
Serial Port Profile -> Vertex configuration menu, set Vertex port to ‘3000′.
Serial Port Profile -> Port configuration menu, add new remote device by pressing ‘Add’ button. Then click ‘00:00:00:00:00:00′, following Port #1 configuration screen will appear.
Set BD address of Parani-SD100 to connect to the Parani-MSP1000.
Click ‘Network Service’ menu, then click ‘Add’ button to add new service.
Click ‘Listening on 7000′, now you can see ‘Network service configuration’ menu. Set Network service mode to ‘Vertex’ and set Vertex port to ‘3000′.
Configure Parani-SD100 Bluetooth-Serial Adapters and pair with Parani-MSP1000 Bluetooth Access Point.
Connect Parani-SD100 to the PC’s RS232C port. Run “ParaniWin” program to configure
Parani-SD100. Set communication settings as below:
o Serial Port: COM[?]
o BaudRate: 9600
o Parity: None
o StopBit: 1
A. Select [Connection Out] menu.
B. Click [Search] to search for the Parani-MSP1000 Bluetooth Access Point.
C. Select the Parani-MSP1000 found in the “Search Result” table.
D. Click [Connect] to “Pair” Parani-SD100 Bluetooth Serial Adapter with Parani-MSP1000
Bluetooth Access Point.
E. Once connected, click [Disconnect] to disconnect the Parani-SD100 from the Parani-
F. Select [Device Setting] menu.
G. Set Operation Mode of Parani-SD100 to “Mode 1″ so that the Parani-SD100
connects to the last connected Bluetooth device (Parani-MSP1000) automatically.
H. Click [Apply].
Run [Serial-IP ⇒ Control Panel] COM Port Redirector program to create and configure a
“Virtual Serial COM Port” in the PC.
A. Click [Select Ports...] to activate a “Virtual Serial COM Port”. Select a “COM PORT”.
B. Select [COM100].
C. Enter the IP Address for “COM100″.
D. Enter the Port Number for “COM100″. (Remarks: This is the “Vertex” port number
created for the Parani-MSP1000 Bluetooth Access Point.
”Serial-IP” COM Port Redirector program will create a “Virtual Serial COM Port – COM100″ and redirect data sent through this “Virtual Serial COM Port – COM100″ to the IP Address and Port Number of the Parani-MSP1000 Bluetooth Access Point.
Run [FinsGateway Configuration] program to configure the Omron Networks and Nodes.
A. Select [SerialUnit] in the “Service” menu.
B. Ensure that the status of the [SerialUnit] is “Stopped”. Otherwise, click the [Stop]
button on the right to stop the [SerialUnit].
C. Select [SerialUnit] in the “Network ⇒ Drivers” menu. Click the [Properties] button on the right.
D. Click [Add] button in the “Lines” tab to add a new network.

. COM Port: COM100
. Node number: 28
. Unit number: 28
E. Select [SerialUnit] in the “Service” menu and click the [Start] button to start the “SerialUnit”
F. Select [Local Network (NET1 serial unit)] in the [Networks and Units] setting menu.
Click [Properties] button to configure the network.
G. Change the “Network number” to “1″ in the “Network” tab.
H. Configure the serial communication settings for “COM100″ in the “Communication Unit”

I. Add PLC nodes for “NET1″ in the “Nodes” tab by clicking [Add] button.
Set PLC “Node no.” and “Unit no.” according to the “Host Link Unit no.” of the PLC.
